A deck built to hold up, not just look good on day one

A deck built to hold up, not just look good on day one

Most deck problems trace back to what’s underneath it: footings poured too shallow, ledger boards attached without proper flashing, or joists spaced wider than the decking material calls for. We build to code on every project, which means proper footings, correct joist spacing, and flashing details that keep water away from the house rather than into it.

As a custom deck builder serving Dalton, Chatsworth, Cleveland, and the surrounding counties in Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama, we work in both pressure-treated wood and composite decking, along with railing, stairs, and covered structures where a project calls for one.

Built for Georgia and Tennessee ground and weather

Built for Georgia and Tennessee ground and weather

Clay-heavy soil across much of Northwest Georgia and the foothills toward Tennessee shifts more than sandy or rocky ground, which makes footing depth and placement more important here than in a lot of other regions. Add in a Southern summer’s UV exposure and the humidity swings between seasons, and the case for composite decking over standard lumber gets stronger for owners who want less maintenance year over year. We’ll walk through both options and what each one actually costs over a 10-year span, not just at installation.

FAQ

Do you handle the permit for a new deck?

Yes. Permits are pulled and inspected as part of the job, not left for the homeowner to sort out.

Wood or composite decking, which is the better choice?

Depends on budget and how much upkeep you want long-term. Pressure-treated wood costs less upfront but needs regular staining or sealing. Composite costs more upfront but holds up with little maintenance for decades. We’ll go over both during the estimate.

How long does building a new deck typically take?

A standard-size deck usually runs 1 to 2 weeks from framing to final decking, depending on size, material, and whether a permit inspection adds a delay.

Can you build a roof or cover over an existing or new deck?

Yes. Covered decks and pergola-style structures are common add-ons, either built at the same time as the deck or added later.

Will you replace an old deck, or only build new ones?

Both. If an existing deck has failed footings, rotted framing, or damaged decking, we’ll assess whether it’s a repair or a full rebuild and give you an honest recommendation either way.

Do you build decks outside Georgia, in Tennessee and Alabama?

Yes. We run regular jobs in Cleveland, TN and Chattanooga, and take on larger projects in Alabama. Travel is factored into the quote up front.

How soon can you start a deck project in Dalton or Cleveland?

Depends on permitting and current schedule, most estimate visits happen within a week of your call, with a start date confirmed once the permit is approved.
